This doesn't seem to be working. I am trying to apply the black but it powders off or melts away from my wheel....Is there a step by step with pics somewhere? I had better luck with my **** setup than the kit. I need more abrasive to get between the runners on an intake and this isn't right. Wrong materials?

It's on the wheel whether you think you can see it or not. A 2-second jab onto a spinning wheel every few minutes is enough.

There are videos about polishing. Not sure if Caswell has one but they're out there.

What stage are you at with the intake? Have you sanded it up to at _least_ a 320 grit? If you're truly at the emery (black compound) stage, it doesn't take a lot of compound to do the polishing, and less compound for subsequent steps. To get between runners I have to use felt bobs, small wheels, mushroom wheels, and a variety of other tools.

If this was easy, there wouldn't be a market for our services.

you may need to rake the wheel before it will accept the compound. new wheels don't take compound very well until it has been run on the surface a few times it seems to me.

They're that shape but made of cotton, etc. I use 1.5" treated ones a lot to get into awkward areas.

Hello cub,
its very daunting at first, all the answers are all there in the posts and no matter how much you read and read you are still at a point where you have to ask the question, remember there is no such a thing as a dumb question....i have asked some well obvious questions to the initiated and thankfully mike and the gang have helped me big time.
i had a drill kit but i opted straight away for a buffing machine, my machine wasnt expensive and is still going strong even though i am watching for the tell tale signs with the bearings etc. it is a big learning curve and takes time,i crawled befor i walked and thank god it has saved me hours on reading asking and then testing each step un til i was happy.have fun testing the compounds and the different wheels.
keep at it and it will put a smile on your face when you produce your first 'masterpiece'
take care
Grommit
