Frame Polishing Question

Hey everybody well i'm am pretty much finished polishing my frame but i have run into a problem. My frame looks great except for the sandcast area it is hazy i resanded it 3 times from 320 grit to 2000 grit went to the black compound and then tripoli and the white rouge and it is still not a perfect match to the rest of the the frame any help on this would be great thank you

Soundes like you got yourself a piece of poor quality potmetal. If you have gotten good results on the rest of the frame and you have used the same tecnique, that particular piece may have never been meant to be polished, therefore substandard metal alloys were probably used to create it.

Hey SICKGIXX.
I also have the same problem after the weld to the lower part of the frame. Ive noticed that it seem to be getting a little bettereach time i sand. I also sanded my frame 3 times on the lower half. 180 to 2000. I think that the pot marks are still there tough, and still have some anodizing left it in them. Im going to try a heavier duty paint stripper and see if that pulls out anything. Other than that, I believe that more sanding is involved. Have you had any luck in the past few days.

Well unfortunately I haven't worked on my bike in the last few days so it looks the same right now. But I will try what you said and really sand the hell out of it this time my bike is a 2001 GSXR 750 thanks for all your help guys.

Im going to try mine tonight. I have easy off oven cleaner and industrial paint stripper. then its onto 180 grit paper on a DA air sander. Ill let you know tomorrow what happens. I have a 01 ZX9R. I did al the jetting and exhaust work, then a guy i worked with hit it with his car and scratched it up. So while i was fixing that, i decided to polish the frame, then the rims. Ive been doing this for the past 2 months every night after works. Im going to get it right soon.

Hey Troy i've been working on mine for the past month on and off and everything was going smooth until i got to the sand cast aera what a pain in the ass i have a dewalt orbital sander that i used with 150 - 220 grit paper and the rest was wet sanded by hand but your right when i look at it in the right light i see pot holes so that is probably why it is hazy i will be working on mine tonight and will let you know if it got any better.

Well heres what i came across. it looks alot better, not as good as the top but alot better. Wet sand from 400 up to 2000, using, get this, WD40 insted of water. sand in the same direction from left to right the whole thing. NO UP AND DOWN. the silicone helps cut smoother than water. water gets a deep down cut. more light reflects off smoother cuts. Picture Jagged mountians from wet sanding to rolling hills with the wd40. Dont rush it. It may take a little while longer for the sanding. Between each paper change. take a paper towel and wipe the frame off. your paper towel will get black. change the towel untill it gets cleaner. Then go to the next paper. After all is done. A spiral wheel and brown rouge works well. Take your time though. Still some tiny scratches left. Im going to try another spiral wheel and white tripoli compound for the tiny scuffs and scratches. Then jewelers rouge on a loose cotton wheel. Ill see what happens. Where you from. Im in IL. West Suburbs

Parafin Oil works great too if you want a cleaner cut.

I tried what i said. It worked great! I put the bike back together friday in about 5 hours. Now all my friends want me to fix theirs. Along with some bodywork on a couple of them. How about you SICKGXX, any luck?

hey troy well i tallked to a guy that does polishing professionally and he told me to wetsand the area with 1500 grit and then use a product called strata ultra cutting creme and then polish with mothers so i just got the creme tonight and i will let you know how it works i also posted a pic of the top part of my frame it is in the gallery i will post more when i'm finished
