Default removing deep scratches from large areas

I need to remove tool marks and scratches from large flat areas of aluminum that I need to take to a mirror finish. I usually start with 280 sand paper and a sanding block. Does anyone have any experience or ideas on tools I could get to make this job go faster?

You could use a dual action sander but you risk getting swirl gouges in the metal. You just have to work longer to get them out.
