Thumbs up Re: Its all in the details...

Good one for beginners to see; might turn on a lightbulb or two. The longer you polish, the more you realize that making your own tools is sometimes a necessity.

To much taping, especially when you can use Cratex or 1/4" diameter cartridge rolls in a Dremel!

Where did you find the 1/4 diameter rolls?

ANd I used cratex, and I found it only puts a shine on parts, and if there are bumps, it will only make shiny bumps.

Do a Google on the rolls...we can't discuss others' products on here...they are available in 1/4" but not in finer grits. The homemade stuff is pretty much the only way to get finer grits in that form.

I have to agree on the Cratex but you can always use small felt bobs with greaseless compound for material removal.

mach1canuck, and mpierich,

I went to the 3M web site and found 1/4" rolls up to P240 grit and I also found 3/16" rolls up to P180 grit.
Use the phone book, yellow pages and look under "abrasives". I have a local distributor that sells by the piece, but the standard package is 100.

Good luck.

John

Yuh, I already get 1/4" rolls up to 320. But in my experience the forum-masters here don't appreciate the touting of other suppliers. It's their forum, so whatever...thanks anyhow.

Thanks for the suggestions guys! Found a spot to order 1/4", and 1/8"!!! rolls in 100, 180, 240, 320 grit.
Also, the same spot had the ceramic stones for very close in detail work.

Jewellery supplies, and mold-finishing sites seem to have the same needs as we do.
