I just installed a polished stainless steel piece on my car, for car shows. To keep it from getting dirty and scratched, I was thinking of covering it up with blue painters tape. When I bought it, it was covered in plastic vinyl, which was used to protect it. Any thoughts on this good or bad.

Painter's masking tape, after a while, (longer for the blue than for the regular brown), separates when you pull it off. The top layer comes off; the adhesive stays on. And it's a hell of a mess to get off. Masking tape is for temporary use.

Might want to check with the powdercoaters in the other forum - maybe clear would work. Or Zoopseal. Like Rasper says, if you use tape, after a while you'll be at it with acetone and a razor blade. |

I dont know if the metal is too thin to powdercoat, not sure if it would twist and crack the powdercoating. |

Good thought, but watch what the plastic wrap touches...could be a mess...

if you want tape that would protect without leaving anything on when you remove it. maybe you should try the green polyester tape we use for powdercoating you can get blue also and its available here form eastwood
