Default Polished Stainless Steel

I just installed a polished stainless steel piece on my car, for car shows. To keep it from getting dirty and scratched, I was thinking of covering it up with blue painters tape. When I bought it, it was covered in plastic vinyl, which was used to protect it. Any thoughts on this good or bad.

Painter's masking tape, after a while, (longer for the blue than for the regular brown), separates when you pull it off. The top layer comes off; the adhesive stays on. And it's a hell of a mess to get off. Masking tape is for temporary use.

Well you don't say what "piece" it is...does it only go on for shows? Do you drive aorund with it on? How big is it?

Might want to check with the powdercoaters in the other forum - maybe clear would work. Or Zoopseal. Like Rasper says, if you use tape, after a while you'll be at it with acetone and a razor blade.

The piece is a radiator cover, its about 2'x10" in size, its used for shows, but I'd rather not take it off and on. Yes, its on all the time, I never thought about powder coating it, to chrome it, it would be more than I would like to spend.

I dont know if the metal is too thin to powdercoat, not sure if it would twist and crack the powdercoating.

ptim,

Try some Saran wrap! And yes it can be clear powder coated, BUT you will loose a little bit of the luster!
