Default Opinions on Glare Polish - protecting polished parts

Hey guys,

I've had good experience with caswell products polishing/restoring the wheels on my car and various engine parts, aluminum mostly. I originally clearcoated these parts using Glisten PC from POR-15...three years later rust has developed underneath metal parts and has started to flake off two of my wheels. I love low maintence but having a coating fail on is not good. I'm done with clearcoating my parts, I'll just try and keep a good coat of wax on my wheels.

I'm in the process of building a new motor for my car and am deciding what I should polish, largely based on how much I want to maintain. I drive my car every day and the lower maintenance it needs the better, but I'd like it to look good aswell. In my searches, I cam across "glare polish" that happens to be sold by caswell. I read the article posted here:

http://www.webbikeworld.com/r2/glare...are-polish.htm

and it mentions it can seal polished parts for up to 5 years. I've visited their website and it sounds like bull mainly. "parts of glass the bond to the metal" so...somehow they've made sand into a liquid?? and "Glass is the only thing that blocks UV rays". this is definatley wrong...but I won't get into it.

anyways, I don't care what bad marketing information they spew out, so long as it works. some people on corvette forums have had good luck with it on their paint but I'm mainly interested in how it works on polished parts and it's long lasting protection.

does anybody here have any experience using the polish as a protectant? if so, I'd love to hear your experiences.

Thanks,
Steve

To be honest I'm totally against coatings of any sort on polished parts - I don't use them, but have seen what happened to others' work, including factory coatings. Not good.

If I felt any urge at all to coat, I'd research clear powdercoating, starting with the forum for it here. It might be a good option, especially if it can be wetsanded after. Plus, it can easily be baked off later, leaving your polished surface most likely only needing a quick run over a spiral wheel.

Others will be along in a bit who know something about powder, or you can go over there and ask.

Well im not sure what they say on there site but quite frankly I have been using Glare for about a year on polished and plated parts it works great it is not a coating it is a polish and I have had very good luck with this product . I have found that the products that Caswells sells “when used correctly” work Great !!

my best experience with clear powder over polished aluminum goes back a little over a year on a daily driver vehicle, and its showing no signs of failure. one thing worth noting though is that clear powder over polished aluminum is not as brilliant looking as bare aluminum.

Hey. May sound wierd, but plain white flour can bring back the shine. I always tell guys to never touch their freshly polished aluminum with a cleaning brush at the carwash. only water, maybe soap but no scrubbing. Aluminum always dulls in time, but the flour trick works well. Alot of truckers carry a bag of plain white flour to help their tanks/wheels look good. I was amazed, but it works pretty good.

Yeah, flour should work like talc.

I recommend my clients use good-quality microfiber cloths for washing.

I'm a little confused! You say you used the Glisten PC and three years later you had RUST developed underneath. Where these steel wheels or aluminum wheels?
