Default hot tank

ive got some triumph motorcycle bits i need to polish up. i also have an old coffee pot (the large ones) to hot tank them in. my question is what would be best to use in the tank. all the parts are aluminum. they are a little dirty and is like to soak them but dont know what would be best, i originally though simple green but read on here that it can cause corrosion. recomendations?
thanks,
Travis

I'm big on kerosene (same as Gunk), a scrub brush and a little elbow grease; maybe some brake cleaner after that to get rid of the kerosene if that's all I'm doing.

I don't think Simple Green would "corrode" aluminum, but so what if it does?...you're going to polish them, right?

what is ment by the hot tank? You use a metal container, put the likes of kerosene in and gently heat it up while the parts are in the solution to help get them clean?

Just interested as this is the kind of thing i was trying to find out in my "is there a chemical" thread.

does the solution need to be bubling or just warmin up?

Probably the guys over in the plating forum would know more, since parts would need to be completely clean before plating.
