Default my new polisher

I picked this up one morning a few months ago in a yard sale for 5 dollars.

It's cast iron. Weighs a ton. I'll re-pour the bearings, strap on a one horse motor and some shaft extensions, turn it around so those slots are sticking out the back, and I figure I'll have a great polisher. Last forever.

I love old cast iron machinery. Back when I was building wooden boats I bought an old 26 inch Fay and Egan planer from the owner of a neighboring shipyard. It was over in the weeds, covered with vines; you could hardly see it. The blade bearings were worn out and it was covered in dirt. I cleaned it up, re-poured the bearings, hooked it up to a '53 Plymouth engine, and I had the best planer in town. I used to put 24 inch wide white oak flitch through it and take off 1/4 of an inch at a pass.

Now that there is a diamond in the rough. Congrats on the find. I have a cast iron DeWalt radial saw that I had been using for my polisher for the past few years...I need a comealong to mount it on a table, but it just keeps going and going.
