Hey all, my name is Wes and am a avid auto enthusiast. Mainly Mustangs.
Anyhow, I have been reading a couple of the threads on polishing a supercharger and have a couple of questions. The terms greaselss compound, cartridge rolls, sewn buffs etc are all new to me. I recently decided to take on the task of polishing my Vortech Centrifical supercharger that was a dull satin alluminum finish. I started the old fashioned way with a couple of tips from some friends, using 100-1200 grit sandpaper followed by some metal polish. Its coming along pretty good, but damn....there has got to be a better way(lol). This is some tedious stuff. I do have a dremel and an old bench grinder. My question is where/who has some good attachments for the Dremel. I tried the BS home depot kit and its useless. Pads are way to small. Also how the hek can I polish in the small crevices that my fingers cant get in? Again, sorry if this is basic stuff, I just dont know much about metal polishing. Thanks, Wes |

greaseless is a compiund thats just like your polishing compouhnds, its just embedded with a abbrasive media. On a mop, with your bench grinder, turn it on and put the greaseless against the mop until it coat the mop. Probably best to stop and start the bench grinder a few times. Then get a hairdryer and heat up the compound on the mop, unitl it goes hard, may take a while. Then your ready to use it as a sanding mop.
I use this techique to do a lot of my sanding and it also works on the same principlpe for the little creices. I use small felt bobs on a dremel with different variants of greaseless grit and then more felt bobs to poolish in those tite spots. Once you start using greaseless, you'll always youse greaseless

twin051302,
First off read this thread MOTORCYCLE POLISHING 101 CLASS IS IN SESSION! It's at the top of the page, then ask your questions. I don't mean to be rude but that thread will answer a multitude of questions. When your finished ask away. John |

I read the tutorial and it was indded very helpfull, im still unsure as to how I can polish in the areas that are hard to get at with a wheel. I assume that maybe some greaseless compound on a small dremel tip?

twin051302,
Don't know how small an area that you want to get into, but they make facer buffs that are 1" in diameter. If those don't work then use the Dremel hard felt buffs. You can also try the Cratex abrasives. http://www.cratex.com/. John |
