Default What kind of sanders should I buy?....

Right now I'm using a 3" 2000 rpm velcro air sander and greasless compound to sand the parts before polishing. I'm intrested in buying some more sanders that would save me some time, I was thinking of buying another 3" velcro air sander that has 2800-16000 rpms and also comes with a 1 1/2 inch backing pad. I do alot of brake parts for atvs so somthing that can get into the nooks and cranys would be great. Do any of you use tublers? if so could you give some specs on them? What do you guys think is the best way to do paint stripping? should I just bead blast? Any input would be great!!!
Thanks and have a great day!!!

well not everyone does the same kind of parts or work with the same tools ,
but i think a 1/4 inch angle die grinder is very useful and if you can make or have someone do some adapters you can use it with cartrigre rolls , buffing wheels ( 3 inches and smaller) sanding pads and more.
stripping paint : sometimes easier and faster just to blast and sometimes i use paint stripper .

I saw on one of the threads you posted and you said soming about using a 1/4 inch belt sander. Where did you buy it from? cause I was neaver able to find one that sounded good. Where do you buy the belts? How fine in grits do they go? What do you use on the angle die grinder?
Thanks

You use air tools?

I use primary electric tools from pferd and suhner.

I think about to buy the UBC 10-R belt grinder from suhner.
www.suhner.com
There is also some auxiliary equipment available, like different trolley poles. The belts are available from suhner too, or as baz said.
The UBC is expensive, but i think i need a new toy to get faster and to get forward.

I thought about air tools some time ago. But i didnt have enough space for setting up a big compressor. And there is also the noise that it makes. I think my neighbours would kill me...

quadracer2cool4u,

I hope you guys are aware that "Baz" has been in the business a long time and he knows what he is talking about.
I'll give you this advise. "Don't make things more complicated than they are"! If you have a piece of aluminum that doesn't have scratches in it that you can catch with your fingernail, just polish it.
They make flap wheels of all different diameters and grits, get one that will fit in the area that you need to sand, if you need to sand. The little nooks and crannies can be sanded with Cratex or using some of the Dremel products. You can use greaseless compound on buffs that are any place from 1" in diameter or larger.
As far a curb rash goes, you want to sand with something big enough in diameter that you don't leave waves in the wheel edge.
As "Baz" recently stated look at the piece you are going to polish and form some kind of plan that you will use the least amount of labor and material to accomplish what you want.

John
