i was looking at a few options along with the industrial flex shaft, and this is what i have came up with.
flex shaft from caswell, $400~ item#1 from eastwood $175~: http://www.eastwoodco.com/shopping/p...roductID=16443 item #2 from eastwood $350~: http://www.eastwoodco.com/shopping/p...iProductID=853 my question is, that item #1 and #2 both run 1/3 hp. item #2 looks like is is made for wheels, but item #1 can be fitted with a 1/4" shank, which can be used on an adapter for a wheel. with that being said, motor on item #1 looks the smallest, even though it's the same hp, and also turns high rpms. would item #1 be able to turn a 6" wheel without straining it alot? |

Number three looks OK, except they don't tell the length (and it looks short to me). By the way, you'll notice the wheel isn't spinning in that pictue. You can't bend the shaft that much and have it last very long! |

samtgallagher,
Either way you go there are pro's and con's. Personally I would prefer to use something with a collet in lieu of a Jacobs chuck. The collet is normally smaller and easier to get into tighter areas. John |

i have only 2 links one for #1 that is like you say a glorified dremel with a skinny flex shaft , wich i would never use with anything close to a 6 inch wheel then the second link for # 2 wich looks much bigger but like you say they don t say anything about the lenght of it |

That's a good point, John. I think you could make or buy an attachment so you could chuck a 4"=6" shaft into a regular chuck that would have a collet on the end of it. That way you'd have the best of both...the chuck could handle a 1/2" mandrel if you wanted.

i don't know about all this ****, i may just end up buying that 3/4 hp buffer and flexshaft from caswell. i hate ot risk ordering a $200 one from eastwood, and it not work well, or break a month down the road.
