Default 3m Roloc disc adapter question

If I wanted to use this disc with my drill which shank fits it?

Is this the right one?

There are so many adapters, its not really clear which one is correct.

Thanks guys

I have similar discs that I use with a die grinder, though I find the die grinder is not easy to get a flat and smooth surface with. I would have to recommend that instead of using the abrasive pads, that you use the actual sandpaper pads. I have better luck with greaseless on buffing wheels and also an orbital sander.

I have only seen the 1/4 inch adapter. I can take and post photos if you like!

Many places (Northern Tool, Harbor Freight, Sears, Etc) sell a kit that includes the dics as well as the adapter.

Hope this helps!

I think those disks come in 2" and 3" and so do the shanks. Just make sure the shanks match the size of your die grinder collet (1/4 or 1/8 ).

You also have to make sure the attachment methods match. I think some are called TS and some are called TR. One of them has the screw in fitting the others are kind of snap on. I'm probably tottaly wrong on the names, but I know there are at least three type of mounting types (the two mentioned plus hook and loop).

If you have access to a grainger store (and I think you need a corporate acct) thats the cheapest you'll find the disks.

By chance I went to a swap meet in Englishtown, NJ two weeks ago. They were selling the disks 10 for $6. Not bad.

Hey I actually re-read your post. The collet size doesn't matter with a drill since it's adjustable. I wonder about the RPMs though. A die grinder, which those disks/shanks are made for operates at 15k - 20k rpms. Drills, I think, are much slower. Not positive about that, though...

I took some photos last night of my die grinder and the adapter (I've got two of 'em actually) and I'll post them up a little later on just for the heck of it. I haven't seen these any smaller than 1/4 inch, but that's not to say they aren't out there somewhere... I think the most popular size shaft is going to be 1/4 inch for this though.

Did you find anything at Sears?
