Default Sanding the Welds on Frame to get it ready for Polishing

I have not found anyone in here with this question. This is probably the most important thing in Prepping a motorcycle frame for Polishing. When U folks sand down the frame how do you take out the Black looking this from the crevices of the welds.I know you Polishers know what I'm talking about. When you sand the frame it's not that bad, then you get to the welds and there deep crevices in the welds, there's still paint or brush aluminum finish in those crevices and believe me you will not knock it out with a Da sander.I can knock it out but it will make the welds flat, and the welds will get weaker. I s there anyway I can take out the paint or brush aluminum finish in the crevices of the welds. Whats a better way in sand the welds to make it real clean!!

media blasting with a fine glassbead will clean inside the recess areas of the welds prior to polishing .

What do you want? How many ways do you think there are to do that?

If you have "deep crevices" in the welds, they aren't real good welds. And even if you get the paint out of the crevices, they'll still look like crappy welds, just polished.

You could try some good liquid paint stripper.

Or else grind the welds smooth or pick the paint out with a needle, lol...

like mpierich says , there is not many ways to do that , you blast , you use paint stripper (if it is paint but if it is anodised paint stripper won t work) or you could always grind that weld until it is all flat but i would nt want to ride that bike after that

you should just sand the weld marks completely smooth. It'll look alot better and you won't have crevices left to worry about getting any residue out of.

That's what I was thinking, it's all about how well the weld has penetrated, not what's on the surface. I've seen plenty of extended swingarms that were smooth, not much that takes more abuse than that.

how do you guys know how well the welds have penetrated ?
once you have sanded or grinded the weld flat how do you know if you have 1/4 inch thick of material left or if you have 1/32 ?
do you have a way of checking this or is it guesswork?

LOL...hey baz, maybe one of the fellas will volunteer to test out the welds on the street...

Anyhow...polishing frames? Please. In the day, if you were that picky you frenched 'em with Bondo and painted. Then if you didn't know what you were doing the Bondo fell out later, LOL...
