Thread: Brass Polishing

    Thumbs down Brass Polishing

I polish brass blades on antique fans and need to know the correct "bar" for polishing. I've heard the "Blue" and then "Green". Which would give me the highest gloss possible. Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I have the Caswell polisher using the 10" and 8" buffing wheels.

Why don't you just try a few and see? In general with any material it depends greatly on the particular alloy and starting condition. I've not done much brass but would probably start with emery if it needed it, then go to white and finish up with red, and maybe experiement with blue and/or green in there somewhere. Can't see where experiemntation would hurt it any.

On brass, use your RED jewelers rouge, then finish with White. That's how I've always done it.
