Default Blackening unusual parts

I have some parts that need to be blackened. They are made of a chrome plated metal shaft and a chrome plated plastic knob, and cannot be separated. What would be the best way to put a fairly durable black finish on these? I've tried painting similar parts before, but it wears off and scratches to easy.

Thanks,
Brian Williams

You could try:

Gun Metal Blue (not for steel)

Produces gun metal blue, black, brown and slight purple on copper, brass, bronze, white metals, silver and tin lead alloys. Used at 10-50% by volume at 65-85° F. Does not contain selenium.

PROD A327 Gun Metal Blue 16 fl oz $19.00

It SHOULD work on chrome, but try it on a similar part, or an inconspicuous area first.

Thanks for the reply, I might just try that. One question though, what is considered "white metals"? I'm new to metalworking and I haven't heard the term before.
