    Default bead blasting copper

I'm new here. Seeing if I could find some help. I have a few turkey calls that are copper, I want to get a satin finish put on them. First if I have them bead blasted will it harm the wood,or how will I have to protect it? And second does anyone know where I could have this done and how much? I am in Tulsa,Ok ..Thanks Mike

If you need more info or pictures let me know

Bead blasting or sand blasting with a low pressure will give the copper a frosted or matte finish. It should be cleaned before and after blasting. This is so you don't drive the already oxidized layer into the copper. As far as the wood, if it can't be removed, place electrical tape over the wood at the junction and cover the rest with a taped-up baggie. Keep in mind that copper will oxidize very quickly and turn a reddish color within a day. If you intend to do further finishing of the copper, it should be done right away. (Plating, coating, etc.) Your plating options are limited if the wood can't be removed. Plating chemicals will wick into the wood and corrode the metal under/next to it. It will probably discolor the wood as well.

    A picture sure would help.

I'm SW of San Antonio about 25 miles. If you can't find someone closer, give me a shout.

I forgot to add I just need it blasted,it makes the surface sound real good! Then you just clean with alcohol to keep the oil off it and you dont have to rough it up,just your striker.

Not many turkeys around here. Mostly rabbit, dove, quail, deer, feral pigs and a few hogs. BIG hogs! Big enough to mistake for a cow at first sight. If'n the Rattle Snakes and Cougars don't eat 'em first.

I don't go out to the back property at night. Too many things around here that will eat ya if given a chance.

I sent you a private message with my email. Id be willing to blast one for you if you are willing to mail it to Minnesota.

My only concern is that you probably use very thin copper on you calls. when you blast thin metal you can warp it. if its too thin it will warp even with light pressure.

I could even tape it off and try different medias on it, half glass half alu oxide.

What is the thickness of your copper?
