Default Compressor question.

Hi, question about compressors, and noise.

I currently have a 16 gallon Porter-Cable *oil-less* type compressor.
It is a single stage deal, and it is VERY loud. I makes 5.4@90 and 8@40

It can't keep up with any sandblasting, but it is handly because I can keep it outside in the shed.

I am looking at a 60 gallon two stage oil-lubricated deal from Eagle. It makes 11.2@90 and 18@40. It is 230V though.
I would have to mount this in my basement and run hoses out a basement window to the shed though (no 230V service, and cant install one either)

What is the noise difference between the two? I would never be able to run the small one inside the house, but outside in the shed you can barely hear it.
Would the big one be noticeable in the basement? I can run a grinder and drills all day long in the basement with no complaints from the Mrs. WHat do you think? Much sound different between the two?

mach1canuck,

Visit this site before you make any decisions. http://www.pablaster.com/

As a rule of thumb, the bigger the compressor the better. If you chose to get the bigger compressor (230V) you could run an extension cord from your electrical panel to your shed to power the compressor. Then again it depends on what the distance would be!
Don't know what the difference in the noise would be.

It is great if you can put it outside and build a cover for it.

Two pieces of number 8 wire from your electrical box in the basement out to your shed would give you all the capacity you need for a compressor, and more. You could pick up the ground from the 110 in the shed, or a ground rod, or even a third strand of wire from the basement. Rig it up as an extension cord with plugs and receptacles and I don't think you would be breaking any building codes either, if you care about that.

Compressors are noisy. They rattle windows and wives.

I guess maybe you are going to need two sheds: one to work in, and one for the wife, when the compressor is running in the basement.

Anyone out there have a premade shed that they work in? Would they work ok? What size would be decent?
I can put a couple layers of subflooring down to support the compressor and grinder.
