Default Finish for Allen type bolts?

I have an old truck, it has some odd bolts. Round head with recessed center kinda like an allen or torex type. These are inside the bed and seen, holding on the stepside fenders.

What would be best for something like these? At first I kinda thought about powder, but I dought I would get cover in the center bit area and also the bit still needs to fit so I can't be filling it in much.

I thought maybe chrome the bolt heads, not sure how to get a good throw into the tight center bit area.

The old 50 GMC is too far gone to restore original but will make a nice street rod. So I can do whatever to the bolts as long as they look nice and don't rust.

chromo,

Try going on some of the GMC forums and see if you can get Stainless Steel bolts. That will solve your problem.

Do they have a large flat head similar to a washer? Or, are they the standard socket-head cap screws? The standards would have had a black oxide finish. The flat type could have been zinc chromated or cadmium plated. They would have been Allen sockets as Torx wasn't in use yet.

Many types are still available. Check McMaster-Carr: http://www.mcmaster.com/

In the search box on the left, type in Socket Cap Screws.

Thank Carwiz,

I think maybe these are actaully more of a butterfly head or such, Thing is my bolts are ok for use but need something for looks.

Just a large round head with a reccessed center.
