Gun Finishing ???

I am new to different types of gun finishies. I have a complete plating shop and want to plate pistols. I need any help on identifing and stripping of different metal finishes on guns. Thanks, Todd

Name the types of guns, and we can help you.

Usually on military-style rifles, you'll find most (if not all) surfaces are parkerized. Older styles could've been blued...

Usually the "silver" on handguns will be Nickel, though I've seen bonified Chrome-plated as well.

I am working on some cheap FIE pistols. The frames are aluminum. I have been sandblasting, zincating, 15 min. flash copper. Then copy chrome. I am not buffing so I get just a satin finish. They look OK. But I want a polished finish. I am looking for ways to chemicaly strip, so I would have less buffing and better finish. Thanks, Todd

I've coated a lot of firearms but most have been with gun coat and dura coat or parker. All I can say is when it comes to aluminum frames don't go above 275 degrees (f). One of these days I'll get the stones to try nickel or crome. Good luck and post some pics when your done.
