"black pearl"-ing emblems

Hello all, i currently have plastic OEM chrome emblems on my car and i want to "black pearl" or smoke them rather, like the way they are offerred from the car dealers. How would i achieve this ?

Black pearl emblems itself looks like plastic chrome emblems dipped into a transparent black paint and UV top coated. Being that they are already have a chrome finish on them, should i look into the antiguing products/ metal finishing solutions if so which one?
I was advised that i should strip off the clear coat and get the black krome kit and clear coat after, but shouldn't i just get the darkening solution since the pieces are chrome plated already? I'm lost.

A place that does professional vacuum metalizing/chrome plating on plastic calls the service chrome plate surface coating where they can tint the chrome in various colors. Thanks, Steve
