I have the medium sized vibratory tumbler. I purchased some medium and fine ceramic triangles and some treated corn cob media with the tumbler. I am trying to strip and clean used carburetor parts (small parts not easily bead blasted like springs and other small irregular shaped steel parts). Cleaning is necessary prior to degreasing and replating in the copycad system, then yellow chromate dip final process.
The triangular media is too large to clean springs and small irregular parts. So I tried the treated corn cob. It does a semi decent job, but leaves black residue on many parts, even after days of constant cleaning. It too is not completely cleaning my small irregular parts. Can glass beads be used in these tumblers? Would they clean the steel parts? Any other media work better than the triangles or corn cob? Wlanut shells? Need some help here. We had a large vibratory tumbler at work but it was more of a drum shape, it used either beads or aluminum silicate?? grit tumbling with the parts. It removed rust, old plating etc from steel parts. Used as a dry process. |
