Default Silvachrome Topcoat Question

The topcoating process in the Silvachrome turns a chrome-looking surface into a silver-flake like suface. Feels a little rough, not smooth. I'm using a 4-1 ratio of topcoat to thinner (thinner from the basecoat). Has anyone else had this problem and solved it? Seems like I was getting good results when I first started using the topcoat a month ago. I had to wait for some equipment to arrive, so I had to delay everything a month.

Does anyone know the chemical composition of the topcoat? Is this just a clear lacquer? I'll try a clear modelling lacquer from a local hobby store. Any suggestions?
Thank You
