Thread: Blackening stainless

  1. #1

    Default Blackening stainless

I see the product for blackening stainless, SSB370 Stainless Steel Blackener 370 (Not For Steel) 1 Pint $28.99 , and am wondering if I can brush or wipe it on or if it has to be submersed.

This is for a firearm and I have heard that the stainless blackening products can cause damage to the rifling in the bore, so I want to avoid that.

I have never tried using a brush, I have always submerged the part, including a rifle barrel. I just plugged both ends with silicone plugs.

Did you just squirt silicone in or make a plug and stuff it in?

You can buy silicone plugs, you can buy the kit here from Caswells or smaller amounts on Ebay, just search for "silicone plug" .

I see the original question hasn't been answered yet...CAN you brush the product on or do you have to soak it?
