    Chrome Stripping??

I have tailight brackets on a truck I am restoring that are chromed and obviously very cheap chrome because it is flaking and peeling with some rust underneath. What can I use to remove the chrome so I can just paint them the color of the truck? Thanks

I can help, but have to know what type of metal the base is, as it will change the process a little, and an idea of the size. If you "think" it's steel, please throw a magnet on it for sure to avoid the wrong chemical (I'll make sure it's something readily available), which may damage the part. Have you got a manual battery charger? Might seem like things are getting too involved, but it's rather easy with chem's, and fast. Plus you may have other parts to do down the road, and then you'll be set up.

I don't know what type of metal it is. Unfortunately the parts are at my cabin and won't be going there for a week or two to get them. When I do I will put a magnet to them. Memory tells me they are iron/metal about 3/16 thick and basically an angle bracket about 4X6 inches. Not big parts. Would fit in a big coffee can easily.
I do have several manual battery chargers. I will let you know when I get the pieces and would really appreciate your help at that time. Thanks.
