Has anyone used mineral wool in an oven build? What are the pros and cons of it?

I am using it in my current oven build. It is supposed to be better for high heat than regular fiberglass. It will never degrade. It cuts easy with a razor knife. Its very dense and heavy. It is itchy though like fiberglass and costs more. I found it at my local building supply. May as well use the right stuff although some here have used fiberglass and it works.

What places carry it? The only places I have here in this small town is ACE, Home depot, and Mead lumber.

mineral wool is rated to around 1200 degs . regular fiberglas is rated to 800 degs .

most of your drywall suppliers have it . lowes and hd might be able to special order it .

most guys get it from mcmaster carr since it ships ups ground .

yup, got roxul from a building supply place up the street. wasn't terribly expensive.

i build one oven with fiberglass, and one with roxul. i liked working with the roxul better. neater/easier to cut, and it laid in the walls much better. more structural integrity to it so it stays where you put it.

Call Roxul 1-800-265-6878 for a supplier near you.

After a couple of phone calls I found a supplier about 10 miles from my house.

bundles of 2 inch thick 48 square feet per bundle is $23.04
