    Smile Spray Booth for Powder

Hey guys im working on a bigger oven at the moment but at the same time i want to build a spray booth with the vacuum filter back like the ones they use here...

deluxe base oven and powder boot

I plan to make a booth about the same size as the new oven which will be 6X4X3. So what i would like to know is about how many CFM i will need to have adequate dust filtration without being so much that it just pulls the powder off my parts.

That size booth is 72sf so i was thinking that around 150cfm would probably work. If anyone has any input on this i would appreciate it. Blower motors can get kinda pricey so id like to get it right the first time.

    Thanks,
    Keith

But at Eastwoods forum there is more. Too bad its down now for maintenance. I built mine out of wood and those shiny shower panels for ease of cleanup. I used an air handler from an old heat/ac unit that someone threw out and changed the motor from 220v to 120v. It has 6 filters and works fine.

See my Booth pics on the Photobucket link in my signature. Mine is pretty close to your dimensions, but a little bigger. Made as Grumple's,... with 2x's and a bunch of what's called "Tile board" from H-Depot. Basically it's a painted piece of thin masonite. Works really well and I used two cheapy fans from wally world to draw air with.... minimal but very effective.

150 cfm won't cut it. The industry standard is 100 cfm per sq ft of surface area. If your booth opening is 6 ft high x 4 ft wide, 6x4 = 24 x 100 = 2400 cfm.

if you're using filters like that one, which i think is a bad idea, you need to make sure you use a high-pressure blower. i.e. a radial blade and not a box fan or a squirrel cage. they move lots of air, but as soon as a restriction is introduced (filters) they lose cfm dramatically. i recommend a cyclone. we use one and it's zero maintenance since there's nothing to clog.

    Len,
That reminds me, you never followed up with the cyclone pics and info.

Yeah actually i was reading around and found the cyclone. I found one on ebay for $87.00 so im going to get one of those. I was thinking of going with something like a 400cfm blower since they are normally using that with a shop vac and the next size up cyclone recomends a 700cfm. What do you guys think? Is that gonna be to big for that unit?

This is the unint i was looking at...
