    Default powder coating question...

I am wanting to powdercoat my valve covers to look like these. I have a few questions.. My assumption is that I need to do the black..the the silver.. I have a few qeustions..

1..How do I mask off the lettering to look right...
2..What color do you think that silver is and where I can I buy it..

You might get better response by placing this question in the PC forum, versus the oven building forum. But to answer your question, most raised letters are shot first, cured and then the whole cover shot in the remaining color. Before curing, the letters are wiped clean of powder using a wet finger, paper towel, etc.

I wouldn't venture a guess as to the exact color of the valve covers.

Ditto what Ed says. To me, it looks like plain silver but the letters look painted.

On a side note - I have that same engine in a 51 Chrysler Imperial. First year of Chrysler's Hemi. Thought about pulling the body and using the chassis to build a replica 51 Chrysler K-310. The factory used the same chassis.

My 331 Hemi is an extended block and came out of a 1951 New Yorker. The K-310 is a cool car.. Where would you get the body if you were going to build a replica?? That is a cool idea!

I'm looking at the Silver color and It looks like a Normal aluminized paint to me. I'm guessing you could do a bright silver or a chrome powder coat on them and get really close.

I like the aluminum color and was afraid that the Chrome might be to shiny. I also don't want it to fade so was thinking about clear coating it, but did not wan the "Chrome" look.. Thoughts??

Most of the chorme powders will "dull" to a silver with a clear coat anyway. None of them look very perfectly chrome. With added clear coats, you could achieve a very close match I believe. (maybe 2 coats of clear instead of one)
