Question Inside vs outside oven metal

I was wondering does the metal have to be the same. I am starting to find a lot of junk/scrap cars and thought hey use 20/22ga for the inside of the oven then use car parts (hoods, trunks, doors) and such that I cut up to make the outside cover that holds the insulation together. So in a nut shell using metal studs for the frame, cover that with 20/22ga then put on insulation then cover with metal I get from scrap cars? Would that work?

Looking to piece together enough stuff over time to build a 4'x4'x6' oven so that I can do pretty much anything I come across and still have my smaller over more everything else.

    Input greatly appreciated!

Or heck build the whole thing out of old car parts or would that not work being that the metal might be to thick and take to long to allow the temp to rise inside the oven?

Using any scrap metal for the outer skin would work. The most obvious problems would be finding sheet metal of the appropriate size. Using painted scrap for the inner walls might be a problem as the paint certainly wouldn't hold up to the oven temperatures.

The inner walls I was just going to see about putting together from new metal. The outer parts was my bigger concern I can media blast them down and weld them up and paint them to look fine and be solid and that was the idea I was going to try. I figured if I spaced out the joints right I can build the inside using smaller pieces would I could get easier. I also have buddy that is a pro welder that would be willing to help keep the inside metal put together solid if I had any trouble with it.

Is there a limit to how think the inner walls should be? I have access to being able to order rather large sheets of different metals at busness cost.

the oven section of the powder coating manual calls out 22ga inside and out, and they're referring to industrial applications. that's what i've used, and i'd use it again.

I used 22 gauge galvanized for inside and outside except for the floor and ceiling where I used 20 gauge.

I have used 22 guage for two oven builds now, I would also use it again, I bought 4x10 sheets for $25 a sheet a month ago. . Check with a local hvac supplier they are usually cheaper than steel yards. Imo opinion it would be way to much work to use scrap steel off cars to save a few dollars not to mention the time savings. Good luck on the build,
