    Default Need parts source for 120V oven

    I need to build a special small oven. Anyone know where to buy 110V parts?
    I need controller, heating elements, thermal couple, and I'd like it to be pretty accurate up to around 450F or more.
    I know we all probably build 220V ovens, this is a portable though and needs to be 110V around 1500watts or so. I know the parts are out there, they make 110V kilns.
    This crappy slow dialup I have is really hard to search many sites and E-bay is a killer!

    Thanks.

    The parts you reference, besides the elements to some extent, are not voltage specific. PIDs(Controllers) can operate on a wide range of voltages and will work fine on 120 volts. The TC gives a reference voltage back to the pid and doesn't in itself require voltage.

    Elements are normally rated at a specific wattage based on input voltage. You can operate 240 volt elements on 120 volts, but the output will be reduced to 25% of the listed wattage. There are 120 volt elements available from sources such as McMaster Carr, but they sometimes tend to be a little pricey. Another source would be to salvage an element from an old toaster oven.

    If you have access to any elements their wattage can be computed if you do an Ohms(resistance) check on them with a mm. The formula is:
    Wattage = (Voltage˛ ÷ Resistance)

    1500 watts will be about the maximum you can run on a 15 amp 120 volt circuit. Slightly more if your circuit is 20 amp.

    you could find a 5k or 6k (or any combination up to 6k) 240 volt element and run them at 120v

    Totally new here, but I just bought 2 space heaters at Bi-Mart last night for $15 each to put into the motorhome for winterizing. They are 750/1500 watt fan assisted, thermostaticly controlled and 115V. The elements are, I'm assuming here, NiChrome wire. Just checked the motorhome this morning, 20 degrees outside, 0 degrees with windchill: 28' 1984 Southwind motorhome was at 38 degrees with the thermostats at notch #3, 750 watts each heater. I placed them side-by-side in the middle of the mh, facing opposite directions; I lowered the 'stats to notch #2 as I only want to keep it above freezing.

    Anyway, the point is, for $15 you could have a 1500W heating element, 'stat, fan and power cord. As seen by my test, these things will keep a misurably insulated 8'x28'x7' mh above freezing in a windstorm at a low 'stat setting!

    Hope it helps get the ideas rolling!
