Default PID questions...

I have just got my oven built up...

I have wired it up using a contactor set up wiring schematic. Everything is exactly how it is supposed to be on the schematic. I plugged it in and....

NOW What

I have the manual downloaded but I don't understand that at all.

Where do I go from here?

I think there should be a "how-to" past the actual wiring of the oven geared toward how to set up and use the PID controllers (TET-617).

When I power it up it says EEEE on the top display and 0080 on the bottom.

I just don't know where to go from here and I don't really understand the manual.

No one?

I have kinda figured out that on start up the top display should be displaying a temp that the thermocoupler is reading.

So it must be that the TC is bad? or wired wrong?

I have seen some schematics that have a jump over the top of the TC to the terminal from terminal 8 to 10.

Do I need to jump that? I am so lost.

EEEE is an error. It usually indicates the PID can't recognize the thermocouple (TC). Either you have the wrong code set for the type of TC or the TC is incorrectly wired to the PID. The TC/PID is polar sensitive so make sure you have the +/- wired correctly also.

The 0080 on the bottom is probably the default selected value (sv) or target temperature. You'll need to setup your PID before it will operate.

I have tried the TC wired both ways just to be sure.

How do I set the code for the type? And how would I figure out the type? It was the one that came with the controller..

I don't have a copy of your PID's manual and since you didn't post a link, I can't help you with the detail settings. Your manual should describe the set up procedure. In most cases, you input an address then step through the parameters. Once at the correct parameter, you should be able to select a value using the indicated keys. This should be covered in the manual. There's hundreds of various PIDs and they're not always set up the same or have the same options. You need to post a link to the manual unless someone else with the same PID can help.

Sorry, Ken

Are you sure that pid isn't a TET-612? I can't find any reference to a TET-617.

Where ever you purchased the pid from should be able to tell you what type of tc was included. The most common type is a 'k'.

If you checked the polarity as Ken pointed out then the parameter setting is most likely incorrect. Look at section 4 in the TET manual for setup. The tc type codes are listed in table 2.

Actually I was looking through things again and the model # on the PID is not a TET its a JLD 612. Whats odd is that when I google the JLD 612 the pics don't look anything like it. It looks just like the pic on the TET 612 manual. Actually the pic is for something totally different, a JLD 633. So I don't really understand what I bought.

I don't know what to do here....

Well oddly enough I set the correct TC setting and bam its working....Kinda.

Now the contactor is making all kinds of noise. So I need to figure out what is going on there....any ideas? I think that I need to re look at the wiring there again to be safe.

Funny I am using the stuff from the TET 612 manual and its working. I don't know but I am going to keep going with it.

Yeah, having the right model number sure helps. The JLD612 is supposed to be the same as the TET612 except the JLD is a low input voltage PID. You'll need to find out for sure which model you have or you could let the "good smoke" out. Once you let it out, there's no way to put it back in. But since you've already hooked it up and appears to be working, you may have the TET612.

Can you post a picture of the PID?

Contactors will click and clack, that's what electro-mechanical relays do. But that shouldn't occur until the sv is approached. Are you sure you have the correct voltage going to the contactor coil? What contactor are you using and what schematic did you use?
