    Cool My NON-Folding Oven begins!

Well I have picked up the beginning of my larger oven. It will be 4x3x3 and I hope to generate enough $ to build my 24 x 24 shop in the back yard so i can then build a 8x8x4 oven. So far I have a total for $67.30 for the mineral wool and the stud. Plan on getting the material to skin it for free and use a $30 oven for wiring, controls and elements.

If I use an old oven door glass to make a window, can you take the part temp using a IR Temp gun threw the glass?

no the ir will read the temp of the glass. consider a remote thermo couple attached to part. that way you will know pretty exactly when your part reaches temp --- or a small peep hole you can open to stick IR in and get somewhat clear reading. ^not a big fan of IR for somewhat precision stuff^ good to use to get ball park and to find dead cylinders.

OKIES then I will not bother with the glass and make a trap door for the IR gun.

Make a trap door with the glass in it, so you can also watch for flow out to check on candies for coverage.... It's actually the best way to go if you can work it out.

Couple more Questions. Do I really need to insulate the bottom if I am setting it flat on a Concrete slab? If not how would I attach the seal for the floor part of the door? Should 2 elements be enough for a 5x3x3 oven?

OK I got my 2x 3500 watt elements, the T-stat, and the 2 controls and power cord block from an oven. Now I need to stretch everything out so it all fits where I want to put it. What spec's do I need for the wire to my wiring? I know high temp but what gauge would be needed? and are there special connectors that I need to splice the wire? where can I look locally for the wire as I do not need all that much.

Well I got my sheet metal in for the inside. Also have the frame almost finished. Here is some sheet metal not being used for this project. also my controls and elements for this oven. yes I gutted a regular oven for them. no need to re-invent something that is already done. Enjoy!
