    Default PID not working! EEE.E

I've been wiring up my oven for the last 5hrs. I have everything finished but the contactors won't engage. I applied a direct line to them so I know its not the contactor.

I am using a JLD612 PID. When everything is turned on the top reads EEE.E. I saw that this means out of range or something. I have tried switching the leads on the TC and nothing changes. There is continuity between the red and terminals on the TC which is normal right? What should I check next

Check a couple of the pid parameters. Make sure 'Inty' is set to 'K' if that is the correct TC type. Also check that 'outy' is set to '1' and 'rd' to '0'.

The out of range condition probably means the Inty is set incorrect or the tc isn't wired with the correct polarity to the pid.

    Thanx for the help Ed,

It turns out that for some reason I forgot to put power back on 13 . Now the contactors turn on and off about 10 times before they stay on. I lowered the temp below ambient and they began to turn on and off again but never stopped.

I haven't been able to run Auto Tune because I had it wired up on my bench top. I'm now installing the wiring etc inside my oven. I'll use AT when its all inside. Is there anything else I should check?

Does anyone have a list of all the parameters that the PID should be set at Just so I can run through them all?

    ...I hope I'm not a pain.

If you have the 3 parameters I mentioned set correctly then the other tuning parameters can be set by running autotuning. You will need to have everything connected and the oven functional before autotuning will work.

lol...I've been busy re-doing everything!!! Some of my wires got waaaaaaay too hot and melted. I relocated everything and as we speak running the oven up to temp. about 425. I am curious though. When it reaches its full temp the pid continues to turn on and off and sometimes goes 5-10 deg above temp but will go back down eventually. is that normal?

also can someone post a pic of how they have their wires connected to the elements. I used ring terminals but I'm now wondering if there is someting more heat resistant.

Ring terminals are OK as long as they are high temp connectors.....

The PID is learning the oven and will do so every time you put a new item in it,.... it takes the info it gathers and does it's best to find and maintain the desired (programmed) temperature. If you put a large massive object in it (an alloy wheel or something like that) it will take a longer time to get to temp also... and will overshoot it a little until it settles in on the set temp...... it will learn to do this over time, and should get better an better at it....
