    Default First oven

So I have built my first oven it is 5•5•7 I have instald 6, 3000watt elements, and here is where I am totally lost, when I look up ssr's it starts talking about in put and out put and I don't have a clue. The pdi's talk about alarms and other things I don't have a clue about, so if someone could tell witch ssr's I need and how many and what pdi would control it I would be most greatful. Thanks to anyone that could.

PID's should be a simple item.... I'd follow the recommendations of others and worry less about all the bells and whistles.... You need a PID that will control the temperature. Anything else should be controlled by switches, unless you have some desire to fire and trigger alarms. A simple Timer is usually more than enough to work with. I use my Phone timer most of the time. It vibrates, so I can go on Media Blasting and running the compressor while I cure stuff. If you want a protection circuit, then an alarm circuit CAN be used to shut things down if the temp runs away due to a Stuck SSR..... I pretty much watch my over closely as I work, so if it gets outta hand, I'll know it pretty quickly.....

SSR's are made in several varieties. The input and output are pretty simple really. If your PID puts out a DC signal to turn the SSR on, then you not a DC input SSR. If it puts out AC to switch it, you need an AC SSR..... The output should be based on AMPERAGE. I haven't found any major differences on that side, as all you will be doing is joining the two contacts together.... The Stuff you will be running through it will be AC current. The amperage draw will depend on what load you put on it. If you use one element per SSR, you can go pretty low on the ratings.... the more Elements you apply, the higher the rating needs to be. I always consider that the rating should be 20% higher than the highest load expected as well.

I won't cover the "process" controlled SSR's.... I don't know of any reason to delve off into those for these ovens.
