Default DETAIL

I AM USING A GAS OVEN CONTROL UNIT TO GEGULATE THE TEMP, I GOT A USED UNIT OUT OF A MOTOR HOME. IT ACTUALLY IS QUITE EASY TO CONVERT.
THE BURNER IS MADE FROM 3/4 IN STEEL CONDUIT. I HAVE'NT SETTLED ON THE SIZE OF THE BURNER YET. THOUGH I MADE THEM EXTRA LLONG SO IF NEED BE I CAN ADD A FEW MORE HOLES FOR MORE HEAT.
HERE IS A LITTLE TRICK I LEARNED FROM THE LOCAL RADIATOR SHOP. THE USE PROPANE TO DO ALL THIER SOLDERING, BUT THEY USING BRASING TIP WITH GAS MIXER CONTROLS AND HOOK COMPRESSED AIR TO THE OXY SIDE TO BRING THE HEAT UP AND GET A PERFECTLY CLEAN BURN. SO WHAT I DID IS WELD A FITTING ONTO THE SIDE OF MY BURNER WHERE YOU WOULD NORMALLY HAVE YOUR FRESH AIR INTAKE FOR THE BURNER. THEN I RAN A COPPER LINE TO IT AND BROUGHT IT OUT SIDE OF THE OVEN TO A CONTROL BALL VALVE AND THEN ON THE END OF THER BALL VALVE I HOOKED A IR FITTING UP FROM MY COMPRESSOR AND THE FLAME WENT FROM ORANGE SOOTED TO BLUE AND VERY CLEAN. IT ALSO LOOKS LIKE WE WILL USE AT LEAST A THIRD LESS OF FUEL FROM THE EXTRA HEAT.
I HAVE PLACED THE BURNER 24" OFF THE GROUND AND SHIELED IT OVER THE TOP TO DIFFUSE THE HEAT FROM THE FLAME. AND IN THE PROCESS I AM HOPING THAT THE BURNER WILL CAUSE A CONVECTION OF AIR CURRENT DRAWING UP THE COOLER AIR FROM BENEATH AND ELEMINATING A NEED FOR ENTERNAL FANS. (HOPING WONT KNOW UNTILL WE USE IT A FEW TIMES).
I ALSO RAN FROM THE REGULATOR AT THE TANK TO A BALL VALVE AND THEN TO THE BURNER.(SEEMS TO WORK WELL BEING ABLE TO DIAL IN THE EXACT AIR FUEL RATIO AT ANY HEAT LEVEL.
ON MY OVEN I HAVE TWO BURNERS ONE IN THE SMALL ROOM AND THEN WHEN THE CENTER DOOR IS OPENED WE CAN WITH YET ANOTHER BALL VALVE SEND GAS TO THE OTHER BURNER AND ALLOWING US TO ONLY NEED ON TEMPERTURE CONTROL SYSTEM FOR BOTH BURNERS.
I DID FIND THAT YOU MUST USE A SECOND BALL VALVE FOR THE SECOND BURNER FOR THE FRESH AIR INTAKE SO THAT THE FIRST BURNER WILL NOT TRY TO DRAFT THE GAS THAT IS BEING FED INTO THE SECOND BURNER AND CAUSING THE FLAME TO BURN INCORRECTLY AND SOOTY.
INSTAED OF A WINDOW WE OPTED FOR INSPECTION PORTS. I AM USING 3 EXUAST PIPE CUT TO THE THICKNESS OF THE WALL AND WELED IN IN A FEW KEY SPOTS SO WE CAN INSPECT THE PARTS AND BURNERS WHILE THE OVEN IS AT TEMP. WE HAVE JUST MADE SHEET MATEL COVERS THAT HANG ON A SCREW OVER THE EXUAST PIECESWITH A LITTLE HANDLE TO SLIDE THEM UP AND OUT OF THE WAY WITHOUT RELEASING A LOT OF HEAT. I'LL GET SOME DETAILED PICTS IF IT WILL HELP ANYONE. JEFF

Thanks,

uuuhhh I have no clue what he just said. I found an oven big enough on another site yeah 8 grand...

what did it cost everyone to build their own oven? I have no welder, I have no access to welders, Im not good at this wiring in the elemets or know the whole BTU ratio air heat fuel formulas. Im just your average joe that knows how to blow stuff up and when it comes to motorcycles and fuel. Im all over it.. lol

would someone be willing to sell some plans to a poor man. lol

You will need to build a heat exchanger around your burner using gas...I will try to get some pics of the one I'm working on today..

I would really appreciate it. I've been considering ussing burners for a BBQ grill. Would that get hot enough? What are you using? I would much rather use gas. I won't have to worry about current draw or anything like that. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Kris

Default BURNER SIZE

FOR THE BURNER I AM USING A 3/4 INCH ELECTRICAL CONDUIT AND PLACING THE HOLES FOR THE BURNER FLAME ON TOP OF THE TUBE AND THE JUST A PIECE OF SHEEET METAL ABOUT 10 INCHES OVER THE TOP OF THE FLAME TO DIFFUSE THE HEAT. WE STARTER WITH THE HOLES FAIRLY SMALL AND SPACED APART JUST ENOUGH SO THAT THE FLAME WOULD LITE ACROSS THE ENTIRE BURNER. THEN WE MADE MORE HOLES AND ENLARGED THEM UNTILL WE CAME UP WITH THE RIGHT AMOUNT OF HEAT FOR OUR ROOM. THE WHOLE TRICK HERE IS TO USE THE CONTROLS OUT OF A GAS RANGE SO IT MAINTANS THE TEMP YOU WANT. THE BURNER IS REALLY THE EASY PART. JUST COPY THE ONE YOU HAVE TAKEN FROM THE GAS RANGE YOU WILL BE USING AND LENGHTEN IT OR COPY IT TO BEST SUIT YOUR NEEDS. I WOULD GUESS A BURNER OUT OF A RANGE WOULD HAVE KNOW PROBLEM HEATING A 5FT BY 5FT BY 5FT OVEN. WE FOUND GAS TO BE A LOT MORE FREINDLY TO WORK WITH THAN ELECTRIC. BUT EITHER WAY VERY EASY.

What size holes did you drill in the pipe? and how far apart are the holes drilled one from another? I am definitely going to build my oven to use gas $$$$ its got to be alot cheaper than electric. Have you figured out how the to maintain the constant temp yet? Or is that still being figured out?

Default temp

maintaing the temp is not the problem. we just wanted to get the room to temp very fast for preheating. the thermostat controls from the oven we used maintains the temp, the size of the burner is what determins how fast it will heat up.
