Default oven build/ elec IR/ or propane IR?

Ok, I have read and read... my eyes hurt! I just started PC on my own in my sportbike shop. Now I do car parts in my garage kitchen oven. however, Rims, sportbike frame and what nots just dont fit. SO, i was going to build my own oven. HAHAHA yeah ummm till i found these forums. seems people are having more problems trying to build them and need formulas.. not my cup of java. but before all of this, I was looking at the Propane IR lamp that Columbia coating has to offer. Then I saw castwells Electric IR thts about 100 cheaper. but read that Electric IR just goes straight, and doing bike frames of a large matter, isnt a good thing. Then I read about propane and that its more heat than waves... Im confused. So do I build an oven, Get the 1500 electric, or do I use the propane? Remember I do motorcycles, more on the line of Sportbikes, so frames, swingarms and wheels.. not a whole lot of tubes, just cast aluminum or steel!

Thanks for all the help

Archer

i'm sorta going thru the same thing, I've read and don't want to ask to many stupid questions so I read all the threads here ( I think ) anyways I had an old chest freezer here I stripped out years ago and used it for storage, I'm in the process of marring it to an old furnace case for depth and hooking it altogether into a an old built in stove for the heat, not sure if it's going to work, if it does I will have at least a oven with 45 1/4 or better depth and about 20+ inches of width...got some pics on the digital if your interested in what this creature is starting to look like...wish I was rich. I'd sure go a different way...furrr sure...

Is that what you used to cure the JetHot coating? I ended up buying something similar to what you had listed from the other company. Except mine was way cheaper. I bought the heater through Summit $119 and built my own stand. I also bought the Infared thermometer from a local AC supply store for $69.

For yall guys above senna-the-great just finished his oven and it seemed to work fine. I think the oven measured 5'wx3'dx4'h.Look in the photo album and see the pick of the oven. I am sure he wont mind you asking a few ?'s.

Nope, I use either a standard kitchen oven for all of the ceramic coating. The only exhaust that wouldn't fit the kitchen oven are the mid and long tube headers. I use my larger oven for those.

Default Ir curing

I have had some success using a Mr. Heater 3 head ir propane heater.
I would suggest building an oven. It takes so freaking long to get at all the areas and not overheat another.

i am kind of in the same situation. You certainly do not want to put a brake caliper in an 8 foot oven, that would be a wast of energy. So I have come to the conclusion that, Keep the kitchen oven, build like a 3'x3'x4', and then build a4'x4'x8' for bigger projects to maximize my energy use. Electrical vs Propane I think is a toss up choice. Electrical obviously for the smaller ovens but when you get into the bigger ones (lile car frame size) I am thinking more towards propane. I know space is an issue for most of us and these are just my thoughts. Hope it helps some one because you guys sure have helped my PC adventures. Thanks Again to all you guys !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Archer,
I'd build an oven big enough for what you need to do.. later on you can always build bigger if needed.
