Jim, When you look at the insulation you might want to look at mineral wool. I used it in my oven and have run it up to 900f for about 15 mins and it worked great. When I bought my insulation it came in 24"X48" sheets, but the company I bought it from asked if I wanted it in a 4'X8' blanket. I believe you could get it as thick as 6". I used 3" thick 9lb rigid mineral wool. I know fiberglass will work but after researching the thermal properties of both I think in your particular case it might be best to use mineral wool. The extra heavy walls of your tank/oven will retain more heat for an extended period of time. Because mineral wool is so much more dense than fibeglass is it will outlast fiber and will retain heat much better. I also found that mineral wool isn't too much more costly than fiber glass. The price difference when I bought mine, for the same amount of thermal protection was only $7.00. BTW the high temp limit of the insulation I used is 1400f for no more than 2hrs, and it's fire resistant. I figured it might be worth a look for you as well.

I bought it from a company here in Jersey. They sell all kinds of industrial insulation. http://www.mcneilusa.com/. They were very helpful when I called them. I would suggest that you might want to poke around in your local area because I was told that they would only deliver locally. I found them by googling rock wool or mineral wool.

KZjim,
Our commercial oven (inside) is 51"h x 37"d x 25"w, it is 30amp 220v 6.5KW element which equals about 22,200 btuh. You really don't need much in the way of a circulation fan. Our has about a 5" diameter blade running about 750 rpm. If you mount a fan (and you should) make sure to get a second smaller blade. Something around 2" or so.. Mount it on motor shaft outside of the oven, it will act like a heat sling and keep the motor from frying. Holes in the bottom is a good idea Probably more than you wanted to know Last edited by Popeye; 11-03-2005 at 01:20 PM. |
