datadawg,

You are correct on the Duct Insulation "Ultra Gold". I lined the entire inside doors everything with this. Kind of expensive but works well. The ducting is 22ga I think, comes in 4'x10' sheets. Its expensive unless you know someone who owns a HVAC business and is willing to sell it to you at cost. I used steel studs to frame the unit, then lined the inside with the Ultra Gold, you will want to cover all metal on the walls and ceiling to prevent heat transfer through the studs.

Thanks. I do know someone in HVAC, I plan on calling him Monday to see what he can do for me.

I talked to a metal roofing supplier that i have worked with before and they have galvanized "5v" metal roofing that has 3' wide coverage and is selling for $1.05 a liner foot. i figure if i use the "do not use" cover sheets i would only have $45 in metal for the inside. Not bad.

I still haven't decided if i am going to use electric elements like you did or go with a gas fired setup.
I know i can get the burners for the gas for free but i haven't called around yet about the electric elements.

Datadawg,

Of course the heat source is totally up to you. But I prefer the control of Electric.

This is where I purchased my elements.

Sorry to dig up an old thread but I like the way the elements are mounted in this oven (electrical boxes?). I am curious as to how you would insulate the wires inside the boxes, or would you have to use high temp. wire? I would really like to build mine this way if someone could explain this to me.

i think the boxes are used more for mounting than wiring. as a side note most elements that have wires attached will have the high temp silicone jacketed wires on them. if they are stud ended then try to get the connections outside of the hot zone if possible.

Thanks Pickleboy. I realize the boxes are mainly for mounting the elements and I think I was unclear on what I want to know. Looking at this picture, even leaving the boxes off and mounting right into the top of the panel they are mounted to here, how would you insulate regular wire on the back side of the panel if the elements only have studs, because I'm sure heat would sink right through it.

Sorry if my question doesn't make sense, it seems that I'm having trouble finding the right words.

I used high temp wire bought from Kendall Electric. I think it has woven fiberglass over the wire instead of your typical plastic coating. If I recall its about .18 per ft.
