Default Where to get insulation?

I know a lot of you are using that foil backed foam board, but the local Home Depot don't seem to carry that stuff. Where is the best place to find that stuff and what should I expect to pay? Also, is there anything else that I can use for insulation? Will good ole Pink Panther fiberglass insulation work, or will it burst into flames.

Thanks for the helo in advance!

Kris

If you live in or arround a moderate size city check the Yellow pages for insulation suppliers. I called around yesterday found a local supply house that carries Mineral Wool (aka Rock Wool) for $2.49 for a 2'X4'X1 1/2" sheet.

While talking to the salesman on the phone he asked what I was using it for the discussion then changed to powder coating. He wants me to look at coating some Jr. Dragster parts while he is doing his winter rebuild.

I used a 2" thick, 3 PCF unfaced fiberglass board for my oven. The same product is manufactured by Owens-Corning, Knauf, Johns-Manville, and Certainteed. Do a google search to find their websites and then look for a "Where to buy" page. This should lead you to a local distributor. You can also do a google search for "General Insulation" to find out if they have a warehouse close to you.

I paid about $66 for an 80SF bundle.

Call me cheap but mine came from Home Depot. I used R-13 wall insulation and removed the plastic wrap. The fiberglass has a melting point of 1,000 degrees F. So it's okay to use. Domestic ovens use the same type of insulation.

Same here, I bought the stuff with kraft paper, and just peeled the paper off. It seems to work well in initial tests.

Are you talking about the Dow Tuff-R R13 Insulation at Home Depot.

Any problems? Melting/burning/smoking?

I hit a Home Depot today and picked up water heater insulation. I am gonna take some plywood and wrap the insulation which is double foil backed and use some kind of adhesive to apply. Then, I can connect the pieces for my oven extension. It should work, right?

you can get mineral wool which is used in furnaces from McMaster-Carr. We just built a 4X4X6 oven using 2" of 1800 degree insulation---cool to the touch on the outside when running at 400 degress
