Default Thermostat location

I see a lot of threads regarding the placement of the elements, but not much on where the thermostat is being installed.

Is there a "this place works great" and a corresponding " this is the worst place to put it." ? ? ?

Put it somewhere that's not close to any of the elements. If you have a circulating fan in your oven, placment really won't matter that much (as long as it's not next to an element). Our oven has elements on the sides. 1 6 inches down from the top and the other 6 inches up from the bottom on the other side. Therm is on the side with the lower element and protrudes from the rear 3 inches from the side wall.

Are we talking about the thermostat or the thermocouple?
