Default Another Fridge/retrofit

Hello all,
After reading through all the various topics on the subject. I finally bit the bullet and built my own. This started with a old fridge that went belly up on us. So I stripped it out and used the shell. Formed up a liner for it. Built some stand offs. Stuffed it with insulation and presto. New oven. this is for sure oven on a budget. I have about $70.00 in the whole thing. Not much survived from the donor oven.

I finished it today for the most part. Just have to install the fan and light yet. Here are some pics of the overall, top rack and bottom rack and element. Takes about 15 to 20 minutes to get up to temp. Let me know what you think.

How many elments do you have? i built one a while back i piped it and run a force air heater in it .. hold 500 for a hour with no problem ......

I broke down and did a total up grade of my whole shop since i moved in a 10000 sg foot + place ...

AWESOME!!! No more bumping parts on the sides. Room to hang parts, I love it. Should have done it much sooner. Now a quick question. Since the donor stove was a self cleaning unit, can i fire both elements off the same circuit? As in bake and broil on the same circuit? If not I can get a contactor if needed, just building on a tight budget.

nice job i built a similer oven
yes you can run both ellements off of the thermistat
think about this
wire them together then put a switch betwen thermistat and top eliment
then build a devider shelf half way up that slides in and out so you can use the bottom for small parts and you dont nave to heat the hole oven or take the shelf out and turn the switch on and use the hole oven for larger parts
thats what i did on my oven made a big difference in the power bill
just a thout for ya

Thanks Coleman5,
I had thought of dividing the oven in two. But had not thought of using the broil on a switch. Good Idea. Will be wiring that up this afternoon.

Added the broil element, preheat time went from 20 minute to 5 minute!!!!

The light is now in place. Stripped the door for the window that is next. Got the gasket from the old oven too. Will have enough to do the top of the door and down the latch side.
More to come.

I think thats awsome I've been thinking of doing this with my old fridge. I know what I will be doing this week. I just have one question, would it be better to put the broil element on top? also if you could show how you wired it, I am no electrian. I have a self cleaning one also with two knobs one for temp and one for bake, broil, cean. would I just be able to use it as it is wired?
Thanks
