I just got some cer-wool for free from a steel foundery. Anyone ever use? Its a 1/2 thick. How thick do I need to get it to use for a oven? I think they said it was good for about 2100 degrees. Please let me know.
thanks |

Kao-wool is brand name I am familiar with. Used in making propane forges and such. Great insulator, can get by with 2-3 inches in a forge. Make sure you use a respirator and gloves when working with this stuff. Bad evil nasties for the lungs. How much of it do you have. I would still go with about 4 inches worth at least. More is better and cheaper to run also.

If you can get it all covered with a first pass then you could usse regular household insulation behind it. since the cer-wool is taking the heat so to speak.
Ken I have plain household insulation in mine.Works just fine. |
