Lightbulb Thinking of an oven.....

ive been lurking here for a while, finally i have the need for an oven.

i wish people would list some more exact specs for us newbies, but i guess they dont wanna give away their secrets

ive seen reference to the 77.00 ebay kiln temp controller, but what about this one? looks much nicer, easier to use and says comes with a thermocoupler.

I justy bought that same one but I think that the 77 dollar one that you are refering to is the one that Stan sells on Ebay. That one also somes with the contactor that you need also but if you already have the contactor then go for the cheaper ebay one.

Angry Re: Thinking of an oven.....

contactors seem to be 25.00 at mcmaster carr, but who knows what ones are good and are not etc

i dont think anyone is keeping secrets on purpose, but ive looked through every post on here for the 11 pages and not a whole lot of solid answers there. seems everyone asks questions or posts stats about their oven and says they will reply with the rest of the info/details, but never does

most any part you can buy from mc master will be a good part. they got thier reputation as an industrial supplier by selling good quality parts. as for exact speck on ovens, not to over state it but when you or someone else is homebuilding the "exact specs" can be a fly by the seat of your pants thing. most just find bits and pieces from others and then try a few different combinations and then it works and they dont think much more about it. i for one will be happy to help out as much as possible but keep in mind that any advice i or others give is a use at your own risk kind of thing since most of us are not master electricians or thermal engineers. the best approach is to decide how big you want the oven first and then we can help with the heat load first and see if you have the power needed to run it. then the design part comes in to the picture. what kind of a budget will dictate how it turns out. hope this helps some and dont hesitate to ask away bro and we will help as much as possible.

dont really have an exact size etc... thought out, hence why i was looking for something that is already built and proven to work.

i mean come on, why buy 3 of this and 4 of that and 10 different ones of these and use the wrong gauge metal or sealent or insulationa and waste tons of $$$$, OR WORSE start a fire, when someone who has a proven setup could simply post their stats.

i like the size of this one, but it seems he didnt finish it or post results yet.
Started my new 4'x4'x6' oven..

I am using a controller similar to that one, but it has a 24VDC output to controll your contactor. It's a Watlow series 93 controller. http://cgi.ebay.com/WATLOW-93-MICROP...QQcmdZViewItem

Works very good. The controller even has a learn function which will learn the heat/cool characteristics of your oven, and pulse the electricity on/off/on in progression as it gets closer to temp. I have 7500W IR in a 12CuFt oven and it rarely overshoots
