Hey guys so far this has been a very informative forum. My question is is high heat wire necessary and if so is there an online seller for it. If it matters I have an old stand up commercial freezer that is 4'x3'x2.5' with the regular stuffing insulation not the rigid.

Go to: www.mcmaster.com
Type in 7304K13 for 18 AWG Teflon coated wire rated at 392deg F/200deg C. This size/type wire is good for up to 24 amps. Use a high temp spade connector to connect to your element: pn 8013K22. Ken Cenicola NHA Supply, LLC |

If your planing on doing any Ceramic coat or anything, I would thing about VHTW, rated for 538 C I get mine form here http://www.tevelec.com/CatalogProduc...ProductsID=119 About $1 a foot CDN for 18Ga which is a really good price. The elements get alot hotter than your oven temp, and this can easily burn off lesser insulations. I have already had a run in with that.

Wow 538C! that's 1000 degrees F, you could actually have that inside the oven.
Just as reference for others, normal household ovens often use 150deg C/302deg F silicone jacketed wire (ref Mcmaster pn 7479K22). I proposed the PTFE coated 200degC/392 degF wire (ref Mcmaster pn 7304K14) pn because it cost less per foot yet was rated higher than household oven wire. This forum is great. I especially like the way no one flames each other on posts. |
