im trying to finalize the dimensions on my oven. I want my max capacities able to cover a set of 24" wheels(just in case) a rear axle, a cruiser/sport bike frame, maybe a k-member. Most of that was easy for me to check, but im not really a bike guy and havent been able to get frame size info from any one.
so the big question, does anyone have aprox. height, length specs for cruisers/ sport bikes. Ive decided to knock the length of the oven down to 6' inside. The width I cant imagine needing more than 3' right now. The height is my main concern, ive been considering dropping to 3' but may need 4' for frames and trolly setups maybe. |

Just some food for thought. I am currently building a 3x3x6 with 6 being the height. I figure that I can get about anything I want to coat in it easy enough. A friend across the road is into bikes and I have a couple of my own. Mine are vintage Honda 750's. I assume your talking about Harley's and the like. Either way, wouldn't 6 feet tall and 3 x3 be a good size for that type of stuff? Tall would be easier to get into and wouldn't take up so much room as one laying down.
I have pictures posted of mine, as it is, at this point and will be adding some more in the next day or so. Take a look at mine for size and such. http://s80.photobucket.com/albums/j1...Powder%20Coat/

Yeah I was figuring a hard tail might give me some problems. but around here, most intrested parties seem to be harley soft tail owners or the sport bike crowd.
Ive really been throwing it back and forth weather i want to have a 6 ft tall or deep. Im already throwing in the convection fan and shrinking from my original size so even heat should be easy. I only have access to a 48" brake so thats really making me want to go with a tall design for construction purposes. I need to go out and see how much i can get thinner steel for. I can get 20ga for $45/4x8 sheet and it leaves me around $300 for sheet alone and I think its a tad overboard |

Personally I would suggest going as tall as you can in respect to your shop.
A few things to concider, first is the actual inside measurements. I'm building an 8' tall oven but the usable space will be far less. I'm loosing 8" from construction of the oven (Top and Bottom panels). Then there is the room for the elements in the bottom, and the rack on top. When it's all said and done I'm guessing I'll have a usable space of about 6.5 feet. On top of that, you will have to concider the hanger on the part your baking... |

I'm planning a 3X3X6 oven also (inside dimensions)... the 6 feet being the length too.
I thought that by doing this, and having the elements all along the bottom, the heat would be more evenly spread. I'm also planning on the door being 3' tall and 6' wide (inside) so that it would be easier to load than on the end. Am I wrong in thinking that about the heating? |

Ive thought about that "old station wagon" door style as i call it if it opened from the side. Im a bit concerned about too much heat spreading that way tho. The inner skin's only metal connection to the outside on my design is around the doorway. Im not sure how id want to hinge a door like that either. My best thought would be a top hinge so the door can flip up and out of the way with pull latches on the bottom sides.
for heating, ive been thinking it may be better to put all the heat up higher and run a convection fan for even heating. This free's up the bottom for more abuse... say, a 200 lb or so axle. im just thinking its generally gonna be easier to support part with ground based racks than hooks. You should be aiming for 12000 watts with 4 elements, this will pull 50A and keep you under standard wiring like mine |
