started making my oven based on this design http://powdercoatoven.4t.com/Index.html
dimensions will be almost the same (3x3x6). only difference is i am framing it completely with metal studs instead of wrapping rigid insulation w/ sheet metal. i don't have a break handy, and i figure i can get more insulation in it w/ framed walls. i also like the horizontal configuration for the type of parts i will be doing. i have the base frame complete, but high winds and snow dont mix well w/ my driveway, so i couldnt assemble any more parts today. |

i can do that, altho the base looks nearly identical to the one on the site i referenced. i just changed the center cross piece to allow for 'wide' elements to fit in better. will explain once i get pics.

my questio is what would be the reason to build an horizontal oven compare to vertical |

i liked the one on the webpage i referenced in the 1st post. the way he made the trolley to hang his parts on and roll in.
initially, i will be doing frames and body parts/panels from old lawn tractors, and i figured it would be handy to have it horizontal. also, i don't know if horizontal vs vertical makes a difference or not, but it seems like the heat will distribute more evenly (and quickly) since there is less height. i guess this may be irrelevant if the volumes of each configuration are equal. i can see where a vertical oven would have benefits, like more rack space and such, and that for many small parts, a horizontal may be difficult. i may put a garage door track or two for some adjustable shelves, but i also have a regular kitchen oven for very small parts. |

I'm also planning on building a Horizontal oven. I think the heat will be more even since it only travels up a little ways. I want to be able to do axles, bumpers and stuff like that.
Now that I think about it... I don't see why I couldn't make it so it could stand up if I needed to... hmmmm.... |

Thought about being able to stand one up and lay it down. But after doing just that (laying it on it's back), I decided it was way to heavy to doing something like that. So it stands upright, which will allow me to do axle housings or bumpers. A fan will cure the temp thing.
