Default type j or type k thermocouple

just purchased controller/contactor and vendor wanted to know if i wanted type j or type k thermocouple.what the difference and which do i want....if it matters,i'm building with steel studs.......thanks.....will

I need the education as well. So go give this a read. It should give you something to go by.
Sounds like K is the better of the two. Maybe not?

Most folks a prefer the "K" tc.
