The way mine is constructed, removing the foam is not a viable option. Really the only thing I can think to do would be to construct a new liner. At any rate it will still take less money and time to do that rather than starting from scratch.

from what i've read, most of the foams will deteriorate at 400+F. i have some foil faced polyiso that i had read was good to 300F, but when i emailed the mfg, they said 250F only. the polyiso is good to higher temps than polystyrene in general.
i plan to use 2" mineral wool on the heat side and i will put the 1.5" polyiso on the outside of that for a full 3.5" insulation and close to R17 total. |

I played the foam removal game. Not fun but not all that bad either. I found the foam stood up to most anything I threw at it to dissolve it. Found the quickest way to remove it was with a air hammer and a wide chisel blade. Then I just built a liner for it. Good luck.
