Default Thermo Coupler

One more question, hope it's the last before I fire this thing up.

On my thermostat there is a + and - hook up for the thermo coupler. How do I know which lead is which on the thermo coupler? There is a green and a white (w/red) lead on the TC but no indication of positive and negative. Does it even matter how it's hooked up?
