Default OK, I thought I was ready for a test run.

So I plug in my new oven for the first test run. Everything looks fine, lights work, fan works and I have power to my Temperature Controller.

I get to looking at the settings and I’m completely lost. I haven’t got the first clue what the 10 different settings need to be. I guess I know my temp settings but that’s it.

Plus I don’t understand how to turn the oven on and off with this controller? As soon as I plug in the oven in the temperature controller powers up but there doesn’t seem to be on on/off. (?)

I really could use some input if anyone has the time to take a look.

Here is a link to the instructions>

First off, how did you get a web site with the settings? I e-mailed the dude and got nothing.

Second, I think it woks pretty much like my first one (Berger-Coleman) sorta.
What I had to do is get my target temp set, which I believe is the SO setting (400deg) and the SOH setting is 20 (default). Set that to 5 and see if this allows the temp to go above 400 by 5 degs.

As for turning it on, I installed a switch to allow power to the controller. I don't see any other way to do it. I also was told that the Auto Tune takes some time to get it to learn where you want it.

But the guy that uses these everyday told me to just set the temp target and it will adjust itself to that temp. But set the SOH also.
Try that. But I do think you need a control switch to turn it on or off.

OK, an on/off is easy enough.

Perhaps my settings are incorrect and the that's why elements aren't getting turned on. I'll try the settings you suggest and see what happends...

Yea Baby!! The sucker fired up!

I'm not sure why but taking the SOH down to 5 kicked the contactor over. What was strange is that when I took SOH down, it also brought my target temp down too (lower than the SOH). It didn't start until I tried to raise my target temp.

I had to take the target temp up as high as the control would let me, then go and raise the SOH. Working back an forth between the two settings I was able to hit the target temp. Weird, but what ever it works!

Thanks.

What kind of switch did you go with on the temp controll?
Do I have to break both power legs or just one?
What was the AMP rating?

Thanks for all your help.

I've included two photos. One of the switch and the other my schematic for my controls. Hope it helps.

OK, now I'm completly confused. I used this wiring diag. which seems quite a bit diffrent than how you did it.

You're running Neutral to A2 and the other is pulling power from L2.

Could the drawing I attaced be picking up a ground from the temp. control?

The difference between your and mine, is I run a Standard oven power cord. It has four wires, one being the ground. Plus I added fuses to protect a few things if shorted. Also, I'm using 120 v for the controller to the contactor. Didn't want to run 240 except for the elements. The diagram that you have is okay, it just don't have a ground. I wanted it for safety sake.

As for the diagram you used, I did also, I just modified mine some. I looked at several others that have been posted as well. They are all about the same, with some modifications with each.

I had a friend take a look at my wiring schematic and he said it was correct. I was worried about the jumper wire because I was guessing on that part, but he said it was right.

More that anything he was able to explain how the system worked. Not understanding the parts was bugging me. Now I understand what's going on and why so I'm comfortable with it (even though it was correct to begin with).

Did you see the link I gave you to your controller?

Thanks for all your help.

BTW, I added toggle switches to my temp controls and it works great.
