I would guess it would depend on the gauge of the steel and how big or small you want to go and what it would take to convert it to an oven. But if you think it would work, why not?

Ditto--It should work. Keep in mind that if the cabinet is going to be the inside, you may get a lot of smoke as the paint burns off on your first heat. You may want to try and rid the paint before hand.

I think if I find a thick enough steel one I should be ok. I think I may even set it up to have the entire front door slide out like the regular drawers would and have my racks hanging in a rolling cage type set up for easy loading and removal. would have to get some metal rollers since the original plastic ones would just plain die from the heat. but it would be nice since I could roll out the hanging rack, maybe even set it up to have multiple racks for smaller parts and have them be removable. Niest thing is that I could load parts from either side of the oven.

So I am thinking of doing a single loop on either side of the oven. I think i may leave the krups alone and save it for small parts. Whats a good controller and what else do I need to make the oven?

Now, fans. The Krups oven I have:

is small and it came with a fan in it. I never used it though. I was always afraid that a fan might blow the powder off the part. But from what I've read it seems like almost everyone has a fan on their ovens they have built. Are they for venting or for trying to keep an even temp in the oven? anyone know of a good source for a metal fan? I have a small old space heater with a metal fan but not sure if it would work ok or if it would move too much air or not enough. Its about 7-8" dia.

Lastly is insulation. What do you guys use? I know of the fire rope (same stuff we use on the door of our wood stove) but not sure what you would use to heat wrap the oven in to protect it. Also has anyone ever sprayed the high temp/ceramic coatings into their oven to help protect the metal? Think this would work or be over kill? I know I'd have to remove or cover the elemtents for that though if i was to spray inside.

so basic questions are:
controler and other electronic goodies
fans
insulation

I have something similar to what you are thinking, I think. http://s80.photobucket.com/albums/j1...Oven/?start=28

Yes the fans are for keeping oven temps at an even temp throughout the oven.

Most of us have used Mineral Wool Insulation as well as the wood stove seal, although there is some kind available from McMaster-Carr. So is the mineral Wool insulation. I will have a couple of sheets left over from my next oven I think. As for coating the inside to protect the sheet metal, unless it's just plain steel with no coating, ie, Galvanized, you wouldn't need too. I sprayed mine with 1200 deg High Temp Engine paint, because mine was NOT Galvanized, It works pretty good. Keeps it from rusting.

so basic questions are:
controler and other electronic goodies Do a forum search and you can find all that info listed by me and others.
fans
insulation
Hope this helps you get going.
